ABOUT MICHAEL D. MILSON
I’m Michael D. Milson. The Inner Rug is where I bring together practical changework ideas, simple philosophy, pop-culture reflections, humor, and the useful little shifts that help life feel less scattered.
It is not about becoming someone else, pretending chaos never happens, or turning self-improvement into another thing to beat yourself up with.
It is about staying human when life gets weird, keeping enough perspective to choose your next move, and finding the things that help tie the room together.
Less panic. More perspective.
Maybe a decent beverage nearby.

I’m a British-born, Michigan-based hypnotist, trainer, coach, Reiki Master/Teacher, ordained Dudeist Priest, writer, and lifelong learner with a deep interest in how people change.
Most of my work has circled around the same question in different forms:
How do people get stuck, and what helps them become more calm, flexible, resourceful, and themselves again?
The Inner Rug gives me a place to explore that question in a relaxed, practical, slightly weird, and hopefully useful way.
THE WORK BEHIND THE RUG
I take the work seriously without needing the whole thing to feel stiff, clinical, or painfully important every second.
Over the years, I’ve studied and practiced hypnosis, NLP, coaching, EFT, Reiki, mind-body work, communication, personal change, and the strange little ways people make meaning out of life.
The Inner Rug is where those threads can breathe a little. Some pieces are practical. Some are philosophical. Some are personal. Some wander through pop culture, simple pleasures, ceremony, or the kind of everyday weirdness that somehow explains more than expected.
The point is not to sound impressive.
The point is to share things that help life feel more workable.

Ordained Dudeist Priest
Writer, thinker, and collector of useful frames
Credentials matter. So does being able to explain useful ideas like a normal human.
WHAT SHAPES THIS PLACE
The Inner Rug is not built around one perfect system, one magic technique, or one tidy little answer to being human. It is more like a useful pile of threads that keep weaving together.
People get stuck in patterns, stories, habits, reactions, and old interpretations. A different frame can sometimes make the same life feel more workable.
Calm is not about pretending nothing matters. It is about having enough space inside yourself to respond instead of just reacting.
A walk, a favorite drink, a dog, a song, a hobby, or a quiet moment can help life feel more tied together than another productivity lecture.
THE HUMAN STUFF
Some useful ideas arrive through formal training. Some arrive through a good conversation, a strange movie, a sci-fi episode, a dog walk, a song, a ceremony, a mistake, or one of those ordinary moments that suddenly explains half your life.
That is part of what I like about The Inner Rug.
It gives serious ideas room to wear comfortable shoes.
Practical philosophy
Hypnosis and changework ideas
Dudeist reflections
NLP-style reframes
Ceremony and meaning
Doctor Who, Star Trek, Supernatural, music, dogs, coffee, and other simple pleasures
The occasional reminder that one weird moment does not have to ruin the whole frame
The Journal is where the ideas get to stretch out: practical tools, reflective posts, pop-culture rabbit holes, simple pleasures, and the occasional nudge to let small things stay small.
